Advent is a season observed in our church, and in many Christian churches, as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus at Christmas. For Christians, the season of Advent anticipates the coming of Christ from three different perspectives: in the flesh in Bethlehem, in our hearts daily, and in glory at the end of time. The season offers the opportunity to prepare our hearts with a time of repentance and reflection as we stay alert for his Second Coming.
In the Anglican tradition, we light four candles–a new one each week–on the Advent wreath, as we get closer to the celebration on Christmas eve, when the Christ Candle is also lit.
