2014 has been a year of dreaming and praying and stepping out in faith. Many significant changes came in 2014.
The Mission: We started 2014 by planning to give ourselves away, to be witnesses for Jesus in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth. In May we were approached by Living Word Church to use our building at times we weren’t using it. It was an obvious “yes”. We didn’t leave Plano (Jerusalem) and we could serve others. Our summer Bible Adventure at the Willow Pond Apartments was once again a priority for the mission field at home (Judea, relatively local). But there was also a desire to go and serve the poor a bit further away in Oklahoma (Samaria). So a mission trip was planned for the summer with outreach to the people of the Cherokee Nation. Finally, we were blessed to serve two missionary families who are living out and taking the Gospel to the ends of the earth (the Middle East and “Z” Island).
The Land: This was the year we faced the question of whether to stay where we are at 915 Parker Road or move somewhere. We decided to move, then we started dreaming about buying land! We started by asking God for the land and the money to buy it. Then we began a search in Lucas, Parker, Allen, Plano, and Fairview to find 2½ to 3 acres to buy. We found 2.99 acres of land in Fairview. It seemed to be the place God was leading us to, but it seemed beyond our reach. After much prayer, we stepped out on faith and entered into a contract to buy it. In November the City of Fairview gave us the OK to build a church on the property at 531 S. State Highway 5, and we closed on the contract to buy the land.
Our Hearts: At family camp this year we were encouraged in our faith by the strong message of what God requires. Micah 6:8 says that God requires us “to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with [our] God.” Coming out of Family Camp I was challenged to put that into how I live.
If I wanted to increase my giving toward works of justice and mercy it would require some adjusting of expenditures. At this same time I was influenced by the Advent Conspiracy, a movement to celebrate Christmas for Jesus. It calls on us to “Worship Fully, Spend Less, Give More, and Love All.” So as God was doing a work on my heart, I asked Faith Church to consider doing the same. The outpouring of giving exceeded expectations. God was making an impact on all of us.
Hope Filled 2015: 2015 is the year to plant Faith Church and it’s ministry for Jesus in the soil of Fairview and into the hearts of its people. We want the Savior’s love to draw those who have never heard the Gospel and those who have given up on it! If we are faithful and love radically and are open to the Spirit’s leading, we can expect great things–eternal things–to happen in 2015.
